It’s not even like same-sex marriage was allowed in the state before (it was banned by statute). They just voted to amend the state constitution to make the marriage between a man and a woman “the only domestic legal union” recognized in the state, which affects not just same-sex couples, but also unmarried couples (gay and straight), protections for victims of domestic violence, and it could even have the effect of removing health care coverage of children of domestic partnerships, among other possible ramifications.
